Frequently asked questions
Therapy is a collaborative process aimed at understanding and addressing emotional, psychological, and relational challenges. It provides a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insights into your experiences, process trauma, and develop coping strategies. Going to therapy is meant to help facilitate personal growth, improve your well-being, and lead a more fulfilling life.
Once the client has scheduled an appointment, an intake session is conducted where clients discuss their reasons for seeking therapy, share their background or history, and establish a connection with their therapist.
Together, the client and therapist will set goals and work through the challenges in regular sessions using various therapeutic techniques tailored to the client’s needs. Throughout this journey, the therapist provides a confidential space for exploration and growth while collaboratively assessing the client’s progress.
The relationship between the therapist and the client is a key factor in positive therapy outcomes, so it’s essential to choose a therapist with whom you feel comfortable, respected, and supported in your journey toward personal growth and healing.
We encourage clients to read through the team profiles and choose a therapist whose specialties align with the client’s presenting issues and needs. Trust your instincts!
If you feel that the therapist isn’t a good fit after the intake session, you’re welcome to switch to another therapist. Your comfort and trust are important to us.
Yes, we offer teletherapy services to provide flexibility and convenience.
Individual therapy sessions are typically 60 to 75 minutes. Couple/family/EMDR sessions may run anywhere from 75 to 100 minutes. However, the exact session length may vary depending on your therapist and the type of therapy you’re receiving.
The number of therapy sessions varies based on your individual needs and progress. Your therapist will work with you to establish a treatment plan, and the frequency and duration of sessions will be determined together.
Generally, clients are encouraged to attend regular sessions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Consistency helps build trust and continuity in the therapeutic relationship.
At the moment, ABRI has a counselling psychologist who can conduct a general screening and produce a general report. She can also provide psychotherapy.
As counselors, we do not provide clinical diagnoses or produce clinical reports.
Unfortunately, our team consists of licensed and registered counselors and a counselling psychologist only. Therefore, they are unable to prescribe medication. Only psychiatrists and medical professionals can prescribe medication.
Yes, we do charge fees for no-shows or late cancellations. To respect the time of our therapists and other clients, we require cancellations to be made at least 48 hours in advance. If you do not show up for your appointment or cancel late, you may be charged a fee. These fees help ensure that therapists’ time is valued and available slots can be offered to other clients in need.
