I am a registered and licensed counsellor, passionate about working with individuals, couples/relationship partners, and families on psychosomatic and emotional disturbances, trauma, and relationship concerns. My journey to becoming a counsellor has been filled with moments of self-discovery and learning about my values in life. As a child, I was “recommended” to be a physician while dreaming of being an artist. However, a pivotal shift led me to pursue studies in Psychology and Counselling, inspired by my experiences with mental health challenges and a desire to become the counsellor I wished I had met during my vulnerable moments when I was young.
Throughout my years as a counsellor, my most precious experiences have been the personal connections with my clients and the moments we shared that were filled with breakthroughs, tears, and laughter. I have come to understand that counselling is not just about solving problems; it’s a journey of building a relationship with our Self and discovering the strengths within. In these moments, we meet our authentic selves and form genuine relationships with others.
I understand that being vulnerable is never easy, and it takes immense courage to touch on our experiences, especially the painful and difficult ones. Growing up as a quiet boy living in a “hypersensitive” body, I resonate deeply with the understanding that we all have a “secret garden” in our hearts—a deep longing to be genuinely seen and understood. It is natural and deeply human to fear being trampled by discouragement and judgment from others. Therefore, I truly wish to create a safe, comfortable environment where you can be yourself and share your emotions and thoughts at your own pace. Together, we can navigate the complexities of life with curiosity, compassion, and clarity.
My counselling practice is primarily guided by humanistic-experiential principles, particularly attachment-based Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). This approach allows me to compassionately hold space for my clients’ emotional experiences, supporting them as they explore, navigate, and make sense of their inner worlds and motivations. In addition to EFT, I am trained in Somatic Experiencing® (SE) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, integrating mind-body healing into talk therapy. This rich combination enables me to provide a holistic approach, safely addressing non-verbal and unprocessed traumatic experiences, especially those from adverse childhood experiences.
My curious and flexible nature has given me “travel tickets” to explore various career industries—administration and management, hospitality, wholesale distribution, and education consultancy—while pursuing my counselling program after graduation. These previous working experiences taught me humility and the importance of understanding everyone’s personal journey and growth, even as a trained counsellor. Outside of counselling work, I enjoy spending time alone at cafes and exploring different places and activities in town with my loved ones. I have a fondness for board games, live music, and creative arts. Currently, I am an active volunteer for an NGO helpline and serve on the committee of the Trauma Therapy Association in Malaysia.
“I firmly believe that growth involves many small steps taken with enormous courage and resilience. So, follow your pace, and don’t forget to pat yourself on the back along the way.” – Jing Rong
