I’m sure most of you have heard about support groups and how they are encouraged especially if you’re going through a hard time, but why exactly is that so? After all, most of us are guilty of encouraging others to speak up about the issues they are facing but not being able to do the same ourselves…
Participating and sharing in support groups helps us validate our feelings and emotions regardless of how “insignificant” they may seem to us. Other members in the group may not truly understand what you’re going through but may have faced similar situations themselves. Being in an environment like that helps reassure us that we are not alone in this journey and in facing the issues that we do, and that’s perfectly fine. In a support group, you will also be able to learn healthier coping skills to help reduce stress or potentially even find out ways to combat the said issue.
