Nothing is going to save us forever, but a lot of things can save us today.

“Nothing is going to save us forever, But a lot of things can save us today.”

This is one of my favorite quotes, because it serves as a reminder to me to stop and bask in the present instead of constantly worrying about the future, if things will be right or wrong, if we’ll do good in the future or stay stagnant. The world is a scary place and is ever-changing; we sometimes try to keep up but end up falling back instead.

We’re so caught up in our need to survive in this evolving world that we often forget to take a breather. Our lives can be overwhelming and may seem intimidating at certain points, but that’s okay. Sometimes, we might struggle in finding a reason to keep pushing forward. The end is never expected or secure, but it does not mean that we can neglect the present.

I used to struggle with overthinking about what the future may hold that I would not be able to enjoy what was in front of me. My relationships with others were also affected because of it as I kept thinking about the “what ifs”. However, now that I’m aware of what is causing it, I’m able to sit back and enjoy the present instead of fixating on the future.

There are a lot of things in our present that we can be grateful for and can help anchor us. Sometimes, it’s the little things that actually have the biggest impact on our lives, and we need to take a breather sometimes and remember all that we’ve been through and remember all these little things. The smile the cleaning lady gives you when you enter the office, the warm sun shining on your skin when you walk down the street, the happy bark of your dog when you come home from work…

It’s so easy to overlook all these tiny things that make us the happiest when we’re distracted with everything else. That is why “at the end of everything, hold onto anything.”
