Small Progress Is Still Progress

“Ugh, I don’t feel like doing this”. “I feel so lazy”, “I am not in the mood for this right now.”

Taking the initiative towards making the first step is always the hardest. Then, when negative thoughts like these arise, the task begins to seem even more dreadful and mammoth-like. But that is exactly when you should push forth and go ahead in making that first step. Even if you’re unsure, and not in the mood for it.

Remember, small progress IS STILL progress. Even if others take it for granted. Even if others do not notice. No matter what, may you know this to be true: grace is running wild within you and you have not been forgotten. You are going to grow in the way you were meant to. You will only bloom with wisdom and strength through the years. Your life will be an ever-present reminder of what it means to make the most of your life, right here.

This is well exemplified in the journey of growth of some of our favorite fruits. The journey from sprouting from a mere seedling, going through the various stages of growth right up to finally flowering, and right up to the ripening of the fruits is not an overnight process. It takes its due time and putting in the required work at each stage of the growth process before it finally sees the final product of its labor over the years.

Consider the apple tree:
An apple can be picked and consumed in a matter of moments, and yet, the apple tree itself can take up to a decade to yield the fruit.

Similarly, consider the lemon tree:
Lemon trees can take around three years to bear fruit and they are also a bit sensitive to the cold. It must be watered very carefully and exposed to sufficient enough light in order for them to come to life.

Then, the orange tree:
For an orange tree to grow from seed and bear fruit, it could take up to fifteen years. But the tree itself is so beautiful, you might begin to delight in the beauty of the leaves before the oranges even appear.

Beautiful things take time. This is true for so many things. Progress goes beyond what is easily noticeable or seen.
As sure as the tree bears fruit, stay in the light while you do the work and be patient. You will grow, too.
